Dameon Performs Close-up Magic - Incognito - In Maine

The last few "music gigs" I've played as a solo entertainer or with the newly formed 3Guys trio has also opened opportunities to do something a little different for Maine music loving audiences … a little close-up magic or micro magie.

I've held off for a long time performing my special brand of magical manipulation/prestidigitation … in Maine, with the exception of the North Eastern New England American Heart Association Ball a couple of years ago when I resurrected my Dameon character and the manipulative dove act "he" presented around the globe … with some newly created additions (of course I couldn't perform the ultimate feat of magic and grow hair … but the "bald" look is in.

Dameon - doves and manipulation - when I had hair … quite a while ago!
I've done a few lectures at a local college pertaining to inventing and manufacturing using magic to create immediate attention and get initial positive feedback from the students. I also spoke loosely about magic and psychology with some high school classes, again creating an instantaneous atmosphere of "hot damn" in the students minds as their jaws dropped open in disbelief while the close-up effects unfolded before their "very" eyes.

So … what the heck … I decided that during the breaks of the music sets Dameon would return and perform a little close-up magic for the "bar" and "club" patrons. And … drum roll please … it's been very successful. For several reasons: 1) Most folks in Maine have never seen ANY magic live right in front of them - 2) If they have seen some it's been a local kids magician - I prefer an unabashed very adult oriented approach to what I do. Why? Simple, these are not children (I don't perform for kids), they are hard working, hard playing, hard laughing … and yes … hard drinking adults that truly appreciate someone laughing with them, having a good time and non of us taking any of it too seriously - 3) I perform only a few effects with cards, coins, etc.. - 4) I try to build upon what I did the "last time" 5) I listen to, and react with the folks, enjoying their reactions, their comments and acknowledge their astonishment with "I know, I know" … and then we all laugh - 6) At the end I'll walk away leaving them wanting more, and throughout the night as they hold up their signed card or shout out some magical thought that pops in their minds, I acknowledge that too and laugh with them. 7) I also accept the drinks they offer me and or the trio with a huge thank you - of course my playing might degrade a bit … luckily it's the late set and I sip slowly.

Next Article I'll talk about the close-up I perform and why …
